What is the maximum occupancy of the barn?
Our maximum capacity in the barn and on the grounds is 150 guests, per town regulations.
Are you open year round?
We are a seasonal venue. The main barn at Powder Major’s farm is open from April through November for weddings and larger events.
Where do we hold the ceremony if it rains?
In the event of rain you could use the beautiful adjoining timber frame barn for smaller weddings/events. The space can also be used as a welcoming area or for cocktails after the ceremony. And, of course there is always the main barn for larger weddings. There is no need for a tent.
Are tables and chairs included in the barn rental fee?
Yes, we include wooden farm tables and rustic metal farm chairs. The metal chairs can be used for the outside service as well as reception. You are responsible for moving the chairs outside on ceremony day and then back inside after the ceremony. We also
have banquet tables that can be used for buffets, DJ or card and gift table.
Do you do tours?
We do. You will need to email (beth@powdermajorsfarm.com) to schedule an appointment.
Do you have restrooms?
Yes, we have on-site restrooms in the space adjoining the barn which are handicapped accessible.
Does the barn have heat or air conditioning?
Yes, the main barn can be heated or cooled and also has a very large fan that provides air circulation. The secondary space
( the smaller timber frame) which includes the kitchen area and the restrooms also has heat and air conditioning.
Can I use my own caterer?
Yes, you may use any caterer you like as long as they provide a copy of their liability insurance certificate.
Is there an on-site kitchen to prepare food?
No, we do not have a commercial kitchen for on site food preparation but, we do have kitchen space available for caterers who have prepared food off-site.
Can I host my rehearsal dinner here?
No, rehearsal dinners are held off site. We do allow for rehearsals (a dry run) the night before the wedding.
Do you sell liquor?
No. You are responsible for purchasing your own liquor, and/ or hiring a bar service. Liability insurance is required for all
bartenders. The couple must purchase separate special event/host liability insurance that also includes liquor liability coverage.
Alcohol service is limited to 6 hours or less and ends at 9 pm.
Are there any regulations regarding music and the duration of events?
Yes. Per the town of Madbury, all wedding reception music (live and amplified) must be contained within the barn at all times and must end by 9:00 pm as a courtesy to our neighbors living on Cherry Lane. The barn’s front gable doors must be closed during sustained amplified music. Ceremony music outside is okay. All events must end and everyone out by 10:00 PM; there are no exceptions to this policy at this time.
Where are you located?
We are located in the seacoast region of New Hampshire in the town of Madbury just minutes away from Dover and the nearby University of New Hampshire in Durham. The venue is located a mere fifteen minutes from Portsmouth and is an hour and half drive from Boston.
Do you allow pets to be a part of the ceremony?
No, we do not allow pets on the premises.
How do I secure a date?
A downpayment of $500 and a signed contract will secure the date with the first installment of venue fee due within 30 days and final installment 1 month before the wedding date.
